Well, as I've made a habit over at my earn money online blog, I am going to give an adsense earnings report for the month of July. I made $348.57 from Adsense in July which was a shade higher than June's numbers ($328.46). Now, I had spent a fair amount of time and work in the month of June on trying to increase traffic to my sites and raise their search engine visibility somewhat. Most of that work I expect to see the results of in August since this was done in the last couple weeks of the month.
To tell the truth though, the last week may have already reflected some of the work I had put in. Towards the end of July though I had a bit of an epiphany about my adsense earnings. I realized that 60% of my earnings come from just two sites. These two sites average very low per click prices somewhere in the territory of small pocket change. Our longest serving President comes to mind..... This epiphany came after seeing a $2.95 click on one of my other sites. Now, I've got to admit that up until now, I haven't bothered with much keyword research. I've focused my sites on topics that I'm interested in and like. They also happen to be areas where not many advertisers are paying big money.....
This realization that it was not only possible, but the evidence was in front of me that there were higher valued clicks out there and the realization that I've never done heavy keyword research led me to realize that I needed to make a change to my tactics in my entire approach to adsense. That shift is why I started this blog, because I wanted to document my realization that hopefully will take me from doing just okay with adsense to me doing VERY well with adsense. Some quick math proved out that it wouldn't take too big an increase in the per click earnings average to have adsense matching our offline income. (You don't have to get all the way up to $2.95 for that to happen.... but if we do get the average up there.... that could be significant.)
You see, I already know how to get traffic for sites, I know how to get quick traffic and I know how to get good traffic and to tell the truth they are NOT one and the same. I'm fairly skilled at getting a site to rank well which is in my opinion a key factor in doing well with adsense. But, along the time of this epiphany I've also come up with a good way to find and target new niches, quickly evaluate if they're worth my time, evaluate whether or not I have a chance to rank in the short term, or if it will take longer to get there and this all just "jelled" for me.
I had about 15 active web sites at the time I made the realization that 2 sites were making up 60% of my earnings (in fact 3 sites make up 75%-80% of my earnings up until now.) My new focus is going to be targeting more valuable keywords to try to raise my average earnings per click. Now, some niches pay better than others, but some are more competitive than others too, meaning it will take longer to rank, tougher to stay there.
The results that I've posted here for July is hopefully just a starting point as I push out to work on implementing my new tactics. I will also be sharing the main idea of what I'm doing here. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to tell ABSOLUTELY everything or if I'll leave some things hidden behind the curtain. There is, after all, a good deal of money to be made and really much of this is VERY easy to do. But, whatever I decide I'll bring my readers along for the ride.
So, what if this is all a miserable failure and I don't wind up increasing my adsense earnings? I'll tell you and I'll do what I can to learn from the experience as well and pinpoint where the mistakes are.
